HOW WE CLEAN GUTTERS.
Step 1: Inspect the Gutters and Property
- 1Walk the entire perimeter of the house and visually inspect all gutters, downspouts, fascia boards, and roof edges.
- 2Look for heavy debris buildup, standing water, sagging or separated sections, loose hangers, cracks, rust, holes, or signs of previous damage.
- 3Check downspouts for clogs and ensure they discharge properly away from the foundation.
- 4Note any fragile areas, painted surfaces, or potential hazards (power lines, uneven grounds, weak roof edges).
- 5Assess the type of gutters (aluminum, steel, etc.) to determine safe pressure washing settings.
- 6Document findings so the homeowner can be informed of any recommended repairs.
Step 2: Prepare Equipment and Safety Gear
- 1Set up a sturdy ladder, wear non-slip footwear, gloves, safety glasses, and a hard hat if needed.
- 2Protect landscaping, windows, siding, and outdoor furniture with tarps or plastic sheeting where overspray may occur.
- 3Position the pressure washer at the top with the wand, ensuring the appropriate PSI setting is used.
- 4Have hand tools ready: gutter scoop or trowel, stiff brush, bucket, and downspout cleaning rod or auger if needed.
Step 3: Manually Remove Large Debris
- 1Use a scoop or gloved hands to remove leaves, twigs, shingle grit, and other heavy debris.
- 2Work in sections, placing debris into a bucket or tarp for later disposal.
- 3This step prevents the pressure washer from forcing large debris into downspouts or creating blockages.
Step 4: Pressure Wash the Gutters
- 1Begin at the highest point or farthest point from the downspout and work systematically towards each downspout.
- 2Periodically check that water is flowing freely towards the downspout.
Step 5: Final Rinse and Visual Check
- 1Give the entire gutter system a final low to moderate pressure rinse to remove remaining grit and ensure clean water flows.
- 2Reinspect every section while still on the ladder. Check for proper pitch.
- 3Wipe or brush exterior gutter faces if needed for a clean appearance.
Step 6: Final Inspection and Cleanup
- 1Inspect for remaining debris or missed spots.
- 2Check for proper slope/pitch (no standing water).
- 3Check for newly revealed signs of damage, sagging, leaks, rust, or fascia issues.
- 4Clean up the premises of the property and load all equipment into the work van.
